The letters are fine, except the lowercase L The book is OK. The letters are fine, except the lowercase L. I don't know what schools are teaching today, but I was surprised to see it just as a vertical bar.Another complaint is the strange nouns chosen for the letters. I get it's a vehicle theme, but x is for x-mas sleigh or l is for liner?Regardless of my complaints, I cut the book up and presented my son with what I wanted him to have and am finding the tracing pieces valuable.Made for boys Super cute tracing book for my preschooler. I didn’t realize that this is geared for boys. It has pictures of trucks or cars on each page. My little girl doesn’t seem to notice or care, but just an FYI.Lots of Words Related to Movement/Vehicles I'm not sure it's right to deduct one star from this product for the following reason, but I am. All of the noun words with the pictures are related to things that move. And some of the words are rather obscure just to fit the theme (see photos). I would have preferred words used more often for learning. However, the front does say On the Go in smaller letters and has all vehicle images. If you look at the image of the back of the book provided by the seller, you can see the on the move words and photos. I just didn't notice when purchasing. I was just focused on alphabet and sight words. Also, it would have been nice to make the pages perforated so the pages could be torn out for easier writing.

Shortest Way Home Free Pdf

ISBN: 1631494368
Title: Shortest Way Home Pdf One Mayor's Challenge and a Model for America's Future
Author: Pete Buttigieg
Published Date: 2019-02-05
Page: 352

“Personal, beguiling and quite moving as he talks about coming out and getting married… The story is told with brisk engagement ― it is difficult not to like him…When Obama wrote his memoir, the idea that the nation would soon put an African-American in the White House seemed beyond the realm of the possible. After reading this memoir written 25 years later, the notion that Buttigieg might be the nation’s first openly gay president doesn’t feel quite as far-fetched.” - Adam Nagourney, New York Times“The young mayor of South Bend, Indiana, now in his second term, explains what mayors do and offers ideas for the country as a whole. . . . Buttigieg's memoir/policy manual has all the signs of a book meant to position a candidate nationally, and his easy movement among and membership in many constituencies (gay, military veteran, liberal, first-generation American, etc.) suggests an interesting political future. For the moment, a valuable rejoinder to like-minded books by Daniel Kemmis, Mitch Landrieu, and other progressive city-scale CEOs.” - Kirkus Reviews“Readers will find telling insights into the events that shaped Buttigieg's biggest decisions and share a typical day in the mayor's office; relive Buttigieg's tour of duty in Afghanistan (while he was still acting mayor); and understand his angst over being a young, gay public figure trying to get a date (spoiler alert: there's a happy ending!). First and foremost a great, engaging read, this is also an inspiring story of a millennial making a difference.” - Kathleen McBroom, Booklist [starred review]“[Buttigieg] has an extraordinary story and great insights into the politics of our country.” - David Axelrod“Combining candor and compassion with a brilliant understanding of how government can be more effective, Shortest Way Home demonstrates that Pete Buttigieg is not only a key political figure in his generation, but also an appealing and even funny writer. Far from a conventional politician's book, his work is an important entry in the American political tradition for the twenty-first century.” - Walter Isaacson“Pete Buttigieg has given more to his community and country before his 40th birthday than most of us do over the course of our lives. At every crossroads, he has turned towards service and leveraged his energy and intellect to help his neighbors and fellow citizens. In this book, you will not only learn about what brings Pete home, but what drives him towards his vision of a better, kinder nation.” - Joe Kennedy III“In this uplifting coming-of-age memoir from the American heartland, Pete Buttigieg, successful mayor of revitalized South Bend, Indiana, writes that the shortest distance between opportunity and success, ‘like good literature, takes personal lived experience as its starting point’―a promising axiom for a prospective national figure.” - David Levering Lewis Pete Buttigieg, born in Indiana in 1982, is currently serving his second term as mayor of South Bend. A dynamic national lecturer and TEDx speaker, as well as a Rhodes Scholar and Navy veteran, Buttigieg was educated at Harvard and Oxford. He and his husband, Chasten Glezman, live in South Bend, Indiana.

A mayor’s inspirational story of a Midwest city that has become nothing less than a blueprint for the future of American renewal.

Once described by the Washington Post as “the most interesting mayor you’ve never heard of,” Pete Buttigieg, the thirty-six-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation’s most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a “dying city,” because the industrial Midwest beckoned as a challenge to the McKinsey-trained Harvard graduate. Whether meeting with city residents on middle-school basketball courts, reclaiming abandoned houses, confronting gun violence, or attracting high-tech industry, Buttigieg has transformed South Bend into a shining model of urban reinvention.

While Washington reels with scandal, Shortest Way Home interweaves two once-unthinkable success stories: that of an Afghanistan veteran who came out and found love and acceptance, all while in office, and that of a Rust Belt city so thoroughly transformed that it shatters the way we view America’s so-called flyover country.

Pretty good pretty good..... There is a little entry in the F section that made me laugh. When doing this book with my daughter. I would tell her the letter, then make the letter's sound for her. So.. F, "fuh"...... get to the page where your child circles all of the pictures that start with an F. I do the F sound for her... then say what the picture is and ask her to repeat it and if it starts with it or not.Welp..... just take a look at the bottom left corner of the page. Say "Fuh" then say what the picture is........I didn't catch it when I said it, but I got wide eyed then burst out laughing when my 4yo daughter repeated it.repetitive activities that improve basic vocabulary and spelling skills... I bought this book for my 4 years old son, who is very interested in alphabet activities. In the daycare, they do a lot of similar exercises and at home he wants to practice some more. For that purpose, this is a really good book. It starts from A and goes through all letters of alphabet. For each letter there are 2 pages of activities: one requires the child to find all the objects that start with that letter among a group of objects and the other one finding the only object in a group of three that begins with that letter. After every 10 pages or so there is a general activity page where small pictures are accompanied with three letters and the kid is required to find the correct letter that the object in the picture starts with. These pages cover all the letters up to that point. The last pages, after all the letters are covered, are another group of activities which require finding the middle missing letter or recognizing the whole word among similar ones. This require more skill than the first set of activities and therefore a kindergarten student would do it better. The pictures are repeated a few times for different activities and this ensures the child to build some new vocabulary. For example my son did not know the word 'can' as in canned food and after I told him and he came across a few more times he was easily noticing it. The pictures are mostly clear and easy to recognize. There are some ambiguities but those are really limited. Finally the book offers 140 stickers and a completion chart. The idea is that for each activity a sticker needs to be put on the corresponding page number on that chart. Good luck if you manage to get them used that way. My son had already sticked half the stickers randomly by the time I first handled the book, kids just don't stop when they handle stickers :)In conclusion, this is a really useful basic practice book. Perhaps it might have offered a wider range of activities but there is no harm being plain and simple as well. I liked the book and my son spends a good amount of time with it. For less than $4 it is a real bargainGood for 3-4 that know their letters, but too easy for Kindergarteners So far our experience is that kindergartners are expected to already know what is in this book. A lot of this was taught by our school district to the early education/pre-k kids. It's definitely a little simpler than I expected, unfortunately. There are only a few pages like the front shows. The majority of the pages are "circle or draw an x on pictures that start with letter __" type exercises. Only the last 5 or so seem to deal with writing in letters in words. That being said, if your kiddo (at any age!) is not comfortable with sound recognition this could help. If they are already very comfortable with their letter/sound recognition then I'd go for something a little more complicated. For the price, it's pretty reasonable. We're about a third of the way through so far, and my pre-schooler loves the gold stars at the back. They have motivated her to keep working for each page, but I can see her losing interest soon since it's pretty easy and repetitive.
