Ski Inc. 2020 Download

ISBN: 0997978422
Title: Ski Inc. 2020 Pdf Alterra Counters Vail Resorts

Chris Diamond is the award-winning author of the first Ski Inc., a resort consultant, and a veteran resort operator. He started his career as an assistant to the president of Killington in 1972, and was the president of Mount Snow, Vermont, from 1977 to 1994. From 1994 to 1996 he served as the vice president for Business Development and president of the Vermont resorts for S-K-I Ltd. He then spent 17 years at the helm of Steamboat Ski Resort before retiring in 2015. He is a past director and chairman of Colorado Ski Country USA and of the National Ski Areas Association, which presented him with its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2013. Chris, who was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame in 2017, lives in Steamboat Springs with his wife, Eileen.Andy Bigford, who edited and collaborated in the writing of Ski Inc. 2020, has spent nearly 40 years in ski-related publishing, starting his career overseeing newspapers in Breckenridge and Aspen. He was the editor-in-chief and then publisher of SKI, and the general manager of Warren Miller Entertainment. He has written or edited four books, including Warren Miller's autobiography, Freedom Found.

"The ski world has been turned upside down."

Chris Diamond's first book, Ski Inc., had just hit bookshelves in December 2016 when shock waves reverberated through the ski resort landscape. In early 2017, the Alterra Mountain Company emerged to challenge Vail Resorts' supremacy, eventually buying 15 resorts, partnering with another 25-plus, and launching the Ikon Pass to compete with the Epic Pass. The story behind Alterra's rise is remarkable, as is Vail Resorts' counter-offensive in the form of its own buying spree, which most recently included the acquisition of the 17 ski areas of Peak Resorts.

Through countless interviews, hundreds of sources, and deep firsthand experience, Diamond dissects this unprecedented upheaval, in which the business has been radically, disruptively, and yet positively transformed. "Ski Inc. 2020 accomplished in a matter of hours what I'd failed to do on my own in a decade: make sense of present-day resort headlines in the context of how we got here in the first place," says Gregg Blanchard, the senior vice president of Strategy for Inntopia.

When Diamond started this Ski Inc. 2020 sequel, he thought it would be primarily the story of how these "Big Two" resort companies suddenly came to control more than half of the U.S. ski resort business through their mega-passes, and what it means for skiers and snowboarders. But as he dug deeper, he discovered dynamic trajectories among the next three largest ski conglomerates (Boyne Resorts, POWDR and Peak Resorts, now part of Vail), plus ingenuity and innovation at a host of small- and medium-sized resorts, dozens of which are chronicled in the book. Besides the widespread success of value season passes, which trade early commitment for dramatically reduced pricing, resorts large and small have polished their operations. The success starts with passionate leadership and extends to every line item. Resorts now avoid risky real-estate projects; vigorously market to and build relationships with digitally savvy customers; sharpen margins across all departments; and improve the product in every way. For an industry that historically suffered through peaks and valleys with the weather and economy, the result today is an impressive bottom-line consistency that has drawn investor interest worldwide.

There are daunting hurdles ahead, with climate change and sluggish participation trends at the top of the disrupter list, but the future is arguably brighter than ever. With season passes at circa-1970s prices, while providing access to dozens of resorts rather than just one, there's never been a better time to be a skier or snowboarder. This book is an eye-opener, a deep, colorful dive beneath the headlines, for any skier or rider who wants to understand today's landscape. And it's a must-read for anyone who works--or wants to work--in the ski industry.

"Chris Diamond takes the reader to a higher level of understanding on the state of the ski-resort industry than anyone has ever done," says Michael Berry, who served as the president of the National Ski Areas Association for 25 years. "Key executives opened up to Chris in a way that is unique to this book; their candor and Chris's astute observations combine to make a compelling read. If you love winter, love mountains, and love to slide on snow, this book is a must-read."

Outgrowing God Pdf

ISBN: B07MN8VCXQ
Title: Outgrowing God Pdf A Beginner's Guide
Should we believe in God? In this brisk introduction to modern atheism, one of the world’s greatest science writers tells us why we shouldn’t.

Richard Dawkins was fifteen when he stopped believing in God.

Deeply impressed by the beauty and complexity of living things, he’d felt certain they must have had a designer. Learning about evolution changed his mind. Now one of the world’s best and bestselling science communicators, Dawkins has given readers, young and old, the same opportunity to rethink the big questions.

In twelve fiercely funny, mind-expanding chapters, Dawkins explains how the natural world arose without a designer—the improbability and beauty of the “bottom-up programming” that engineers an embryo or a flock of starlings—and challenges head-on some of the most basic assumptions made by the world’s religions: Do you believe in God? Which one? Is the Bible a “Good Book”? Is adhering to a religion necessary, or even likely, to make people good to one another? Dissecting everything from Abraham’s abuse of Isaac to the construction of a snowflake, Outgrowing God is a concise, provocative guide to thinking for yourself.

Advance praise for Outgrowing God

“My son came home from his first day in the sixth grade with arms outstretched plaintively demanding to know: ‘Have you ever heard of Jesus?’  We burst out laughing. Maybe not our finest parenting moment, given that he was genuinely distraught. He felt that he had woken up one day to a world in which his peers were expressing beliefs he found frighteningly unreasonable. He began devouring books like The God Delusion, books that helped him formulate his own arguments and helped him stand his groundDawkins’s new book is special in the terrain of atheists’ pleas for humanism and rationalism precisely since it speaks to those most vulnerable to the coercive tactics of religion. As Dawkins himself says in the dedication, this book is for ‘all young people when they’re old enough to decide for themselves.’ It is also, I must add, for their parents.”—Janna Levin, author of Black Hole Blues

“When someone is considering atheism I tell them to read the Bible first and then Dawkins. Outgrowing God—second only to the Bible!”—Penn Jillette, author of God, No!

Nothing new here, and nothing interesting Dawkins has written all this before. He’s said many times, for example, that any God who could create the cosmos would have to be more complex than the cosmos, and would need his existence explained just as much. He’s been answered many times, but he only repeats himself. It’s as if there were no intellectual world outside his own head; as if intellectual integrity never called for a thinker to respond to other thinkers. The same goes for virtually all his theologizing. (I’m not a scientist so I will not speak to most of his science, though I’ll turn to one piece of it very shortly.) It’s all recycled material, but sterile, in the sense that it’s remained uninfluenced by the living world surrounding it.And not just his theology but also his philosophy. At the end of the book he says we “must” live in a “Goldilocks” universe, one of the rare members of the multiverse that supports life. He backs off in the next paragraph as far as admitting it’s not proved yet, but that’s after he concludes it must be true. And why must it be true, even in the complete absence of any physical, empirical evidence? Because there’s no God. And why is he so sure there’s no God? Because the multiverse theory could be true. That’s just rationally empty; it begs the question of God; it’s arguing in a circleThere’s nothing of interest here that wasn’t already in *The God Delusion,* of which nearly every chapter was given enough response by theists to merit at least some attempt at a counter-argument. Dawkins doesn’t seem to care. And because this is old and worked-over material, my final comment is that (unlike most of what I’ve read if Dawkins) this book was really quite boring. I read it so I could review it for The Stream, which I’ll do soon enough. Otherwise I’d have laid it down after a couple chapters and found a better way to spend my time.Atheism for teens This book contains much of the same material as “The God Delusion,” but presented for younger people. Judging from the reaction of a right-wing media reviewer elsewhere on this page (who from appearances simply skipped to the last page, noticed a tangent on the multiverse theory, assumed that it was part of the core argument rather than a tangent, and decided the whole thing was circular reasoning because how can you have a multiverse without God, right? Right?), it won’t convince those who are determined not to be convinced. But Dawkins is no longer speaking to them. That’s the whole point. Young people can decide for themselves, and are doing so. And that scares the hell out of certain people.

Index Card RPG is published by Runehammer Games (see www.runehammer.online)

A fast, fun, friendly RPG for players of all skill levels. This book is comprehensive for your tabletop games, including the very best Game Mastering how-to's, monsters, adventures, maps, characters, and loot! See lots more about ICRPG at www.icrpg.com

Seriously Awesome DM Resource This book has more heart and soul than all of the 5th edition DnD products combined. It's not that I don't love 5th edition, but something about it is starting to feel corporate. Like, this is what makes a good RPG...we need to make sure we check all these boxes. This book doesn't feel like that at all. At every turn it reminds you that this game system is BUILT for DIY. Don't see a monster you like? Make one!Don't like a rule? Change it! While other game systems of course mention that, this is the only system I've tried that truly feels like it means it. The ridiculously simple rules set actually lets Role Play and speed of play take the spotlight...something I've never seen before.I also love the fact that this system was built for every character to use ALL of their dice in their polyhedral set. That's so much fun. Ireally like the concept that every weapon does the same damage. At first my players were weary of it, until they realized that they could play the character that they actually wanted to play. How many times has someone wanted to dual wield daggers to be the badass assassin, only to say..."Well I guess I'm gonna take the shortswords cause they do more damage..."Can't recommend this book enough. Buy it..don't think about it..just buy it.Easy to Learn, Quick and Fun Fantastic RPG System. Light but has plenty of meat. Perfect for getting into the hobby, or playing with your kids. There's also plenty of primer tools to get your game going, plus roll tables to add some randomness.ICRPG 2nd Edition is a wealth of information for any gamemaster. ICRPG 2nd Edition is a wealth of information for any gamemaster, even if you don't use the system itself. But you should use it! It has eased my prep time and encourages players to think outside the box. Coming up with monsters or cool mechanics for your players to interact with right at the table is intuitive, simple, and interesting. I could go on about how much I've enjoyed ICRPG but the best thing to do is check it out for yourself!

Was there an editor for this book? Shameful! The content of the book is excellent, easy to read, and interesting. However, the publisher should be ashamed at the abysmal lack of quality. On some pages, the are so many typos it is difficult to understand what was original written.Great Content but SIGNIFICANT Publishing Error for Some as of 01/04/2017 Great content, easy to read, and very helpful. The significant error is that the publisher used the 10th edition index in this 11th edition. If you are a student you will not be able to easily find the content that you need. I would make sure that you are Not purchasing the first print of the 11th edition - if you will need the index (I purchased my copy on 01/04/2017). I am sending my copy back and getting the etext.I really liked this book and it was well written BUT the ... I really liked this book and it was well written BUT the index is completely off. None of the pages matched up whatsoever to the rest of the book. Its as if the index from an earlier version was just copied and pasted. At first I thought maybe it was just the one I received, but then my classmates brought it up as did another reviewer. It kind of made me question the competence of the publisher, which in turn made me question the legitimacy of the information inside. For a textbook that's over $100 you would expect a little better
